Removal.
The undersigned, having removed his Wheelwrigth Shop from the Stand on Main Street, Charlottesville, at present occupied by his brother, Henry M. Wolfe, as a Grocery Store, to a House on the Street leading directly South from where he formerly done business, and in which Mr. Summerson lately had his Capenter's Shop, is now prepared to eecute all work in his line in a faithful and workmanlike manner, and on reasonable and accommodating terms. Born on Jarman's Gap, half way up side of Blue Ridge on old Layne place. Had one half brother, one full brother.

First school attended in Augusta County, (Oak Pond School House, about three miles north of Waynesboro, a one room school. Next school was in Waynesboro (went 2 sessions). Then went to Hillsboro School (3 sessions), walked five miles each way every day.

At the age of 21, he worked in Kentucky one year. Came back and worked about 15 miles north of Waynesboro in Magnesian mine for two years. Came back home and bought land on Jarman's Gap and planted a peach and apple orchard.

Married Nov. 1894 - To Cornelia Ann Layne. They had eight children (five who were still alive in 1962), nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren in 1962.

He lived at the mountain home for 13 years after marriage, then moved to Crozet in 1907 (bought part of the old Powell place - residence of J.B. Jarman on Park Road, Crozet, VA.) Because of schooling for his childrenn

Listed as beneficiary in will of John M. Thurston for sum of $7.31 also was the executor of estate

Obituary from the Daily Progress: John W. Wolfe, a trial justice for more than 30 years in Albemarle County, died this morning at his home in Crozet, He was 95. Mr. Wolfe was born in Albemarle county on April 8, 1867, son of the late Thomas B. and Susan Thurston Wolfe. His wife who is deceased, was the former Cornelia Ann Layne. He is survived by four sons, Oliver C. Wolfe of Powhanton, Ohio, Russell Wolfe of Staunton, Frank E. Wolfe and John C. Wolfe, both of Crozet; a daughter Mrs. Roy O. Carter of Roanoke, nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A funeral service will b held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Preddys Funeral Home with burial in Rock Gate Cemetery at Crozet.

bullet Thomas Ballard Wolfe(70) (photo) was born in 1839 in Albemarle, Virginia. (71) He was Brethren before 1899.(111) He died in 1899.(70) It is remembered that the Wolfe family came from Pennsylvania by William Wolfe. He was a farmer living in Albemarle County, VA, at the top of Jarman Gap Road, on 150 acres that he bought from the Jarman's. He is illiterate in book learning but was a very smart man. He owned the first saw mill and wheat mill on the Waynesboro side of the mountain. His mills used 6 to 8 horses to operate. He was also know as an excellent horseman. He and his sons ran orchards on their mountain property. During the Civil War he furnished supplies for the soldiers. He was the primarily builder of the Brethren Church on the mountain. He and his wife raised Gene Layne, who had a good education and worked for the Railroad.
